Greener Gadgets 2010
The Greener Gadgets Conference wrapped up last week in New York City with a fun-filled day of discussion and demonstration of sustainable product design, advances in packaging and manufacturing, and how to bring green electronic systems into the home. Fellow TEDster, Yves Behar has the opening keynote and some of the most significant take-aways of the day, including, but not limited to:
1. Technology needs to be approchable, emotional, and low cost. The easiest way to do this to to have it be designed with input from children, ie: One Laptop Per Child
2. Designers need to get outside of what they classify "green" design: think outside the U.S. go into emerging nations and rethink packaging (i.e.: PACT underwear)
3. Sustainability and social conscience are the new elements for design - Make sure you think about design, no design = no business.I also participated in this event: showing off one of my products, the PICOwatt Smart Plug in the Sustainability Show-off.
