The Place To Be: European Summit for Global Transformation

This is where you want to be on Nov. 20 - 22, 2009.

I’ve spoken at a lot of conferences over the last few years, all over the world, and aside from TED, which is life-changing, the European Summit for Global Transformation is probably the coolest.  It’s coming up again in November. You want to be there.  Really, you register here and it’s worth every euro.

Here are my top two reasons why:

 1. It’s about getting things done.  This isn’t one of those places where people listen to you, smile and go on to the next speaker.  They asked what I needed for mideastyouth.com and then, within two days, they delivered everything I said.

When I spoke to them just 10 months ago, I graduated from college and didn’t know how I was going to earn a living. Mideast Youth had no funds, and no potential donors seemed to be interested.  I told them that. One participant provided a generous donation, which solved all our hosting issues for a year, and another participant had a way for me to earn a living building an online community for socially responsible organizations. I was also nominated to be a TED Fellow. I never dreamed that would happen out of that one talk.

2. It’s people just like you. This isn’t a place to go see superstars (although you might). It’s a place to go to work together on the projects and campaigns you’re committed to.  A former professor of mine, Rebecca Self, is one of the organizers. She thought people she knew would be interested in Mideast Youth and that I’d get a lot out of her connections.  She was right.  That’s what the Summit is all about: so many of us have great projects and organizations but we’re working in isolation.  The European Summit is a chance for us to meet up, join forces, share resources and increase our impact by working together.  It’s a weekend of working sessions for social entrepreneurs and intrapreneurs.

I’ll probably have more to say about it, but for now, start making your plans to be there.  You won’t want to miss it.  It’s in Rotterdam, November 21 + 22, plus a Friday night kickoff party and film.  Registration is 275 euros, and the includes some of the food during the weekend. There are special student rates, too. Visit the site for more info.

I’ll be speaking at the European Summit via Skype on Sunday (it coincides with another event I'll be at: Echoing Green.)  Hope to “see” you there.
